BINTOU
HIS STORY
Seized during the arrest of a chimpanzee trafficker, she is one of the many orphans who have fallen victim to this network, which has been operating for decades.
Specialized in bird and primate trafficking, chimpanzees are a major source of income for the traffickers. They order the hunting of parents to capture the babies.
Bintou came from Liberia and was seized in Blolequin, a town in western Côte d'Ivoire, a logistical staging post for traffickers.
Bintou was in a pitiful state: emaciated, dehydrated, exhausted and transported by motorcycle in a wooden box. In fact, her teeth tell us that she would be 1 year old in 1 body of 6 months.
In Akatia, her resilience shines through despite her initial trauma. However, the persistent fear of abandonment reveals the invisible scars of her past.
Bintou recently visited the vet for a crucial check-up. We were worried that she might have a pellet in her head. Fortunately, no lead was found in her head, BUT the results of the X-ray were shocking as several pellets were discovered in her little body.
We can only imagine the suffering she has endured.
Bintou is now in good hands. We're doing everything we can to give her the best possible care and ensure her a life full of happiness.
Together, we can change Bintou's destiny. You can become her godfather or godmother.

⚠ Chimpanzees are not pets!
These chimpanzees are orphans who have fallen victim to the illegal bushmeat and pet trade. They are being rehabilitated at the Akatia sanctuary.
